We're not just a rocket club.

SBAerospace was founded in 2023 by a small group of SBHS students who wanted to actually build things, not just watch videos about them. We started with 10 people, a lot of ambition, and very little budget.

The goal is simple: give SBHS students a real place to engineer. That means actual rocketry builds, custom PCBs, hands-on CAD, and software that eventually ends up flying at 10,000 feet per second.

We compete in the American Rocketry Challenge and work on original projects year-round. Upperclassmen teach freshmen, everyone learns something new every meeting, and at the end of the season we go to a field and launch a rocket we built ourselves.

How we got here

2023

Founded

Ten students, zero budget, one goal: build a real rocket. We started meeting after school and figure things out as we went.

2023-2024

First builds & early flights

First rocket builds, first launches. We got our hands on motors, built airframes, and started learning what actually breaks during a flight and what doesn't.

2024

Electronics & software sub-teams formed

We formalized dedicated sub-teams. Rocket++ (our in-house flight computer) started development. CircuitSpace was built and open-sourced on GitHub.

2025

ARC competition season

Competing in the American Rocketry Challenge for the first time with a full custom build: airbrake system, Rocket++ avionics, and a lot of OpenRocket sims.

Common questions

Nope. We genuinely don't care if you've never touched a soldering iron or opened CAD software. You'll learn it here; that's the whole point. Most of us didn't know what we were doing when we started either.

We meet weekly after school at SBHS. Sub-team sessions are spread across the week depending on room availability. Check in with us on Instagram or email for the current schedule.

Our main competition is the American Rocketry Challenge (ARC), one of the largest rocketry competitions in the country. We also do regional launches through local rocketry clubs (TRA/NAR) and work on open-ended research projects year-round.

Absolutely, freshmen are some of our most active members. The earlier you join, the more you'll get out of it.

You don't have to decide right away. Most new members attend a few general meetings, try stuff out, and naturally gravitate toward whatever they enjoy. You can also float between teams if your interests span multiple areas.
