SBAerospace is a student-run engineering club at SBHS. We compete in the American Rocketry Challenge and build everything ourselves: airframes, electronics, software, and all.
Built entirely by students.
Every part of the rocket (and everything inside it) is designed, built, and flown by SBHS students. No kits.
Rocketry
We design custom airframes and fin geometries, utilizing OpenRocket simulations to verify stability margins and predict flight paths before manufacturing.
Electronics
Custom PCBs, avionics, and the Rocket++ flight computer, designed in KiCad and programmed in C. We build the hardware that goes inside the rocket.
Mechanical
CAD-driven design in SolidWorks and Fusion 360. FEA on critical structures, composite layups, and 3D printed hardware: everything starts with a drawing.
Software
Flight simulations, ground station GUIs, and tools like CircuitSpace, an open-source circuit simulator our electronics team built and uses in-house.
Some of what we've built
Active Airbrake System
Servo-driven airbrakes that autonomously deploy mid-flight to hit a target apogee. PID control loop, Kalman filter, and a custom PCB, all designed in-house.
Rocket++
Our custom flight computer. Handles dual-deploy ejection charge firing, flight state detection, and telemetry logging to onboard flash memory.
American Rocketry Challenge
We compete in ARC, one of the biggest student rocketry competitions in the country. Our rocket has to hit a target altitude and duration with a raw egg payload onboard.

Testing airframes and recovery systems on field days.
